Well, the
weather has finally settled down a bit which, allowed us to get around the
lake much easier, water temperature by afternoon was around 67 deg. and is
stained in the upper half of the lake but is starting to clear slowly.
There seems to be good numbers of fish moving in to the shallows to spawn,
we had a few days of warm and stable weather which helped.
Methods used in shallow spawning areas was a wacky worm in Junebug color
rigged with 1/16 oz tungsten weight fished on grassy flats in 2-6 ft of
water, the weight just allows you cast easier in the wind. The standard
baits also work very well the supper flukes, senkos, spinner baits,
shallow running crank baits. We caught good numbers of fish most came on
the wacky worm. The bigger fish came on a black and blue jig with a zoom
black w/red fleck trailer fished in 8-12 ft of water on edges of creek
channels that also had timber.
Now that the spawn is in full swing it should continue into may. If you
would like a Lake Fork Guide trip give a call at 214-334-9208 good luck
hope you catch a big one. If you need a place to stay give Axton’s Bass
City a call 903-473-7224 .
