Gary Johnson's Lake Fork Fishing Report |
|
![]() Submitted 1-17-12 The water
temperature on Lake Fork is in the high 40's and with recent rains the
lake is about six feet low. There still is very little grass so fishing
main lake and secondary points with timber has worked best for us. We are
not getting a lot of bites each day but the quality of the fish has been
very good. We have been fishing inside fifteen feet of water and lures
which are working best have been suspending jerk baits and red lipless
crank baits and chrome lipless crank baits. As for the jerk baits it seems
that the clown colors work best on sunny days and on cloudy days it seems
the Tennessee shad colors work best. Our retrieve on the jerk baits varies
from day to day but a good rule is the colder the water the slower the
retrieve works best with long pauses just leaving the bait suspended. Also
when the jerk bait gets next to timber just leave the bait suspended and
then make small subtle jerks. Sometimes this generates a reaction bite
from the bass. As for the lipless crank baits I have been using the Yozuri
Rattlin Vibe in both red and chrome colors. If you want to fish
specifically for large fish then try the one ounce Rattle Trap using a
ripping technique. By that I mean retrieve the lure with your rod at ten o
clock and then just rip the rod up to twelve o clock and let the bait fall
similar to a Texas rig. The fish will usually hit the bait on the fall.
